WHY SHOULD YOU HIRE AN EDITOR?

Your manuscript must be polished and pleasing to read, whether you have a publisher or you launch it yourself (an increasingly viable option!). You are visiting this website because you have lingering doubts about your manuscript’s effectiveness.  Maybe English isn't your first language, and you are worried about your word choice and grammar. Whatever is keeping you from getting into print, I can help. Remember, a good editor can make or break your publishing experience.  In short . . .

YOU WANT YOUR WORDS TO MATTER, AND AN EDITOR CAN BRING OUT THEIR FULL BEAUTY AND POWER.

WELCOME!

I'm Lynn Cross, and, unlike some copy editors, I hear and respect your voice first. I fix only what isn't working, in accordance with the first rule of copyediting: do no harm.

  • Academic editing. Dissertations, theses, articles, and reports.  I am an expert in APA style and have helped many PhD candidates get their dissertations approved!  If your article or report suffers from poor grammar and awkward phrasing, such errors may prevent your great ideas from receiving a fair review.

  • Fiction.  I particularly enjoy fantasy and speculative fiction, but I can improve all fiction genres.

  • Nonfiction. Specialties are self-help, metaphysics and philosophy, social and political science, alternative and integrative medicine, food-related topics, and memoir.

  • Websites. They need to hit a home run at first glance.

  • Marketing copy, newsletters, proposals.  Your writing must be correct and clear so your organization’s image remains strong.

It would be great if you would send me an e-mail with a brief description of your manuscript's needs. If you are willing to send me at least a portion of your manuscript, we'll get clear on what I can do for you.  I will also provide a complimentary edit of a few pages, and give you a free mini-critique (if you wish) and an estimate.

I catch all sorts of errors; improve style, flow, and logic; and much more. Whatever your document needs is what I do—from a quick but intense session with a red pencil (well, Track Changes, but you get the idea) to an outright makeover.

My clients include individual authors, students, scholars, and publishers.
